| How does laser hair removal work?
The laser sends a pulse of energy through the skin to the hair follicle. There it is converted to heat, damaging the follicle, and preventing any further hair growth. We use state-of-the-art Light Sheer Diode laser, which treats hundreds of hair follicles in seconds.
How many treatments are necessary?
Since only 20% of the hair follicles are in the active growth stage at any one time (and thus most susceptible to damage); 4 or more treatments are usually necessary over several months.
Is the hair removal permanent?
Yes. The follicle which has been damaged will not produce hair again. However, initially you will see new hair growing in, from the follicles that are now cycling into the active phase. With multiple treatments, most people have no further hair growth.
Can tanned or dark skin be treated?
Patients with a lot pigment in their skin are not good candidates for treatment. This is because the laser targets melanin and can put too much heat into darker skin.
Can I wax or bleach before the treatment?
In the 6 weeks prior to the procedure as well as during the treatments, patients should refrain from plucking, waxing, bleaching or electrolysis. This is because the laser targets melanin in the dark hair root.
Can light-colored hair be removed?
Blonde, red, grey or white hair does not contain enough pigment to provide an effective target for the laser. However, we offer a product called Meladine which can increase the melanin in light-colored hair, allowing it to be removed. Meladine is a spray applied over the course of several weeks. It will not discolor the skin or the visible hair, only the hair root.
Which areas of the body can be treated with laser?
The most popular areas for women are the face, underarms and bikini and for men the back. However, any site with unwanted hair can be treated including the neck, chest, areola, mono-brow, arms, fingers, linea, buttocks, legs, feet and toes.
How is the treatment performed?
The surface of the skin is first cooled to ensure maximum patient comfort. Most people describe a sensation similar to the snap of a rubber band as the pulse is delivered and report only mild discomfort.
How satisfied are patients?
The most common comment is, "If I had known how easy this was, I would have done it a long time ago." Patients are pleasantly surprised at the comfortable treatment and are thrilled to finally be rid of unwanted hair.
